Hospitality Innovation Award 2013
Ali Koç and Semahat Arsel, owners and CEOs of the Turkish Hotel group Divan received the Hospitality Innovation Award in 2013. This prize, awarded by the PKF hotelexperts, was handed over during the hotelforum gala evening.
Michael Widmann, Chief Executive Director of PKF hotelexperts: "The entrepreneur family Koç has established the largest company group in Turkey within just 100 years. The Divan having eleven hotels and 1.447 rooms and therefore being the largest Turkish hotel group is a small but prestigious element thereof. At the same time the hotel Divan Istanbul and the family Koç demonstrated particular moral courage during the recent protests in Gezi Park in Istanbul: this hotel became a meeting point for the demonstrators. Thereby the family Koç has proven - despite the threatened reprisals - that hospitality is of particular importance in times of crisis".
The Hospitality Innovation Award is being given since 2007 by PKF hotelexperts in recognition of significant accomplishments which had a lasting impact on the international hotel industry - with particular regard to the social and corporative engagement. Among others Ursula Schelle-Müller and Dieter Müller (Motel One), Carlo Petrini (Slow Food), Peter-Mario Kubsch (Studiosus) and Helmut Kutin (SOS Children's Village) were the winners of this award in recent years.
