Michael Widmann, CEO of PKF hotelexperts: “The future of the hotel and tourism industry lies in storytelling – establishing a credible foundation in stories and local contexts. Soulless, standardised hotels need to make way for hotels that have character and offer local flair. Hotels need to be integrated into towns and neighbourhoods. Alex Tourski has created izi.TRAVEL, a groundbreaking platform that introduces local history and tells stories to hotel guests and other travellers.”
The idea at the heart of izi.TRAVEL is that every location and every work of art has a story to tell; that art, streets and cities only really come to life through these stories; and that stories connect people. A team of Dutch developers got together with a Swiss investor in 2011 to bring museums and cities and their stories together with travellers who want to discover the world in a new way: through a global platform, freely accessible and free of charge.
The “Hospitality Innovation Award” was first presented in 2007 by PKF hotelexperts in recognition of significant achievements that have had a lasting impact on the international hotel industry, with a special focus on social and societal commitment. Winners of the award in recent years have included Dipl.-Ing. Vanessa Borkmann and Prof. Dr.-Ing.Wilhelm Bauer (of the Fraunhofer IAO “FutureHotel” innovation network), Prof. Dr. Peter Eigen (founder of Transparency International), Clemens Foschi (former managing director of Caritas Services GmbH for the realisation of the Magdas Hotel in Vienna), Ali Koç and Semahat Arsel (Divan hotel group), Ursula Schelle-Müller and Dieter Müller (Motel One), Carlo Petrini (Slow Food), Peter-Mario Kubsch (Studiosus) and Helmut Kutin (from the SOS-Kinderdorf children’s charity).
