Hotel Property Award 2014

This year the "Hotel Property Award" goes to Timber hotel Forsthofalm Leogang im Salzburger Land in Austria. The award was granted yesterday at the hotelforum gala evening. The same evening, also the winners of the "Blue Hotel Award" as well as the "Hospitality Innovation Award" were honored.

Andreas Martin, hotelforum's chairman of the jury: "The 1972 opened chalet for skiers was transformed into today's timber hotel Forsthofalm. It has been newly built in glue free, solid wood construction as addition to the former alpine cabin and is being successfully operated in second generation by the family Widauer year-round. The harmonious and especially sustainable overall concept of this holiday hotel convinced the jury distinctly in their vote. The vision of hotelier Markus Widauer has been implemented technically and creatively by the W2 Manufaktur of the architect couple Waltl under difficult logistical conditions".

The house is barrier-free and technically geared to the low-energy-house standards, where a centrally controlled building management system is obligatory.

The wooden construction already has good isolation value and loss of energy is being reduced by heat recovery at the preparation of bath water and the ventilation system.

The Restaurant is charged by an open display kitchen with charcoal barbecue and in the buffet area for the breakfast a bread oven has been integrated, which is used twice a day. In the bar area with open fireplace the bar counter consists of an untreated oak trunk. On the upper floor of the house the thought-out 1.000 square meter large recreation area is located with sauna, treatment rooms and the from inside accessible outdoor pool with rooftop terrace and view on the surrounding mountains.

Three finalists have been chosen out of the 25 hotel applicants by the interdisciplinary jury of 15:
Timber hotel Forsthofalm Leogang (Salzburger Land, Austria)

Room Mate AITANA Hotel Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Ruby Sofie Hotel Vienna (Austria)

Hotel developers as well as owners and operators were addressed by the bidding of the award. Hotels that opened between January 2013 and June 2014, which set themselves apart from the competition due to a successful concept of architecture, design and innovation, applied for the "Hotel Property Award".
According to hotelforum, the prosperous and homogeneous combination of the single aspects leading to an economically and overall successful hotel concept was decisive.
