Munich, 12 October 2016 – The „Hotel Property of the Year 2016“ award goes to the hotel Reichshof Hamburg CURIO Collection by Hilton this year. The award was presented in the course of the hotelforum gala dinner on 6 October 2016. Andreas Martin, Managing Partner of hotelforum management GmbH said: „The revitalization of this listed former grand hotel with its long tradition, built in the Art Déco style, opened in 1910 and located opposite the central Hamburg railway station, has not only produced a convincing overall result but has also led to a positive rejuvenation of the surrounding area from an urban development point of view.“

During the renovation, building measures from the 1960s were undone, and a number of ceilings as well as the foundation of the building and the public areas were fundamentally rehabilitated. In addition, the guest room floors were completely gutted and the entire building technology was renewed. The refurbishment of the interior architecture was handled by JOI-Design from Hamburg.

Martin: „The ´new´ Reichshof includes six atriums and 72 different types of rooms. The ´Slowman´ restaurant fascinates with the interior and the furnishing in the style of a cruise ship of the early 20th century while the ´Bar 1910´ includes around 90 per cent of original listed Art Déco items.“

The Reichshof Hamburg CURIO Collection by Hilton also has 1920’s style conference rooms with a view into the restaurant as well as a 600 square meter lobby with a ceiling height of 6 meters – the central meeting point of the hotel.

Because of the large number of hotel applications and their diversity this year for the first time the 16-member interdisciplinary jury selected ten nominees from the 31 entries from nine European countries. From these ten nominees three finalists were shortlisted:

 ME Milan Il Duca, Milan

Reichshof Hamburg CURIO Collection by Hilton, Hamburg

Scandic Continental, Stockholm

Martin on the finalists: „The ME Milan II Duca in Milan is a revitalization of a building planned by architect Aldo Rossi in the year 1988. Among other f & b outlets a new pavilion with a bar was added on the top floor including a roof terrace with a fantastic view of the city. The ME is one of the first genuine lifestyle hotels in Italy. The Scandic Continental in Stockholm is part of a mixed-use building including a hotel, conference center, retail stores and private apartments and has direct access to an underground station. Like all Scandic Hotels it places a lot of emphasis on sustainability as well as on accessibility for the disabled. The latter is guaranteed in 48 rooms as well as all public areas.“

The target group that the award appeals to includes hotel developers, owners and operators. Applicants for the „Hotel Property of the Year“ were hotels that opened between January 2015 and June 2016 and distinguished themselves from competitors by way of a successful overall concept of architecture, design and innovation. According to hotelforum the crucial feature is the successful and homogeneous merger of these three aspects into a convincing and economically successful overall hotel concept.
